PSIM: Optimal Security Management

PSIM is the acronym in English for Physical Security Information Management, that is, physical security information management. Basically, it is a program that allows you to manage security and, thanks to that, solve dangerous situations. It is a signal management software. It is a signal management software.

The PSIM, in reality, is a system of systems. The program centralises, in a single command post, any security system and integrates the various devices. The software receives any signal: motion detection in an alarm, entrances and exits in an access control, fire warnings, video surveillance, among others.

What is relevant is that the PSIM ‘understands’ what is happening. As a person would, it will detect a difficult situation and give it a level of importance. It will be the job of an operator to verify that the danger is real, to make a decision and act accordingly.

For example, an intruder enters the building. . The PSIM detects it and keeps track of it, using the alarm sensors. Meanwhile, the system alerts the operator of what is happening. This person verifies the intrusion and gives confirmation to the computer. From that moment on, the internal procedures can be started, which in some cases can lead to the machine proposing, for example, isolating the stranger by closing several doors. The employee approves it and the offender is held until the police forces arrive.

Or maybe it turns out that it was a false alarm, due to a faulty detector. In this case, the operator checks it, requests the maintenance action and while it disables the faulty equipment, in this way the PSIM learns: it will no longer bother the operator with false positives, until the detector is fixed.

The main advantages of the PSIM are essentially three:

  • Centralized management of all signals in a single site managed by a single operator.
  • Significant cost savings.
  • Simple and friendly handling.

What A PSIM Should Have to Be A PSIM

In order for a software to receive the name of PSIM, it must meet all these requirements at the same time:

  • Be compatible with any signal you receive, regardless of manufacturer, so nothing gets out of your control.
  • Put the information you compile into context, to give a good diagnosis.
  • Explain to a person what is happening in an easy way, so that they do not have to waste time thinking and deciding.
  • Tell the person what they have to do, step by step, to correctly follow the security protocols.
  • Generate reports, to have a history or to check and improve procedures.
